Take away hidden data fees

I don't need data so I have it turned off most of the time; however when I want to send a picture message (which is included in my plan) I need to enable it. During the 10 seconds it takes to send that message, my background apps ( which I have no control over), use data if I am not connected to wifi. I have phoned koodo numerous times over this issue and have never gotten it solved. Koodo is being very tricky in that I have to pay an extra 5 dollars each month for data I don't use and frankly don't need but have to turn on to send a picture message.

It's been posted before, but doesn't hurt to post again. You have a point and I really hope something can be done. After all, if it's possible to separate data and MMS in prepaid, there is no excuse/reason why it can't be done in postpaid either! Voted for your idea 🙂

Which Android phone do you have and what background apps do you not have control over? On most Android devices there is the option to restrict or disable background data altogether. I understand that this can become a bit of a hindrance, especially if you're set up to update or sync exclusively over Wi-Fi. If you're looking to save that extra five dollars a month, I think it might be worthwhile to figure out which apps consume data and disable them temporarily for now.

I have noticed that the SIM cards come with 3 APN profiles already defined. Maybe Telus/Koodo could add a 4th pre-defined APN that would accomplish this, specifically. It would be much easier for customers to simply switch to the right APN than to actually configure it themselves. Maybe it would help some people!

There is a way to Change the APN on some Android phones to enable only MMS use.

Well I'll be the first to say it... It's not a hidden fee 😛 lol

In case you want to know, you can set apps to only update when on WiFi in the play store settings. This way, when you turn data on to send or receive a picture message, you dont have to worry about your apps updating as soon as its turned on. Just go into play store, then settings and you will see the option of changing app updates to WiFi only

It's not also the apps updating, which isn't actually the problem, it's the refreshing of data, data being pulled and pushed just to check if there are notifications.
