switching to koodo, do I have to get a new phone?

I have a galaxy note and I'd like to switch for koodo. The 28$ plan here would make me happy but am I obligated to buy another phone to get it? https://www.koodomobile.com/rate-plans?INTCMP=KMNew_NavMenu_Shop_Plans

If your phone is compatible with the Koodo network and unlocked, you can use your own phone. They will run a credit check on you to sign up for a postpaid/monthly plan. So bring proper ID when you go to a store. Also if you want to port your phone number, do not cancel your service. Your account have to be active to port to Koodo.

Nope, you are not obligated to buy a new phone to set up service all you need to do is make sure your phone is unlocked (or already on koodo/telus) and head on over to a koodo store with 2 pieces of I.D and get a sim card for your phone. Hope this helps. 🙂
Thanks a lot for your support! I would have another question if you don't mind. How do I know if my phone is unlocked and how can I unlock it if it isn't? Also, are plans on this page years contract or months to months? Thanks again for the help. ^.^

There is no fix-term contracts with koodo so the only thing you could ever be signed into having to pay would be the cost of your phone but since you already own your device there is no length you have to stay. As for checking to see if your phone is unlocked the only method I know of is to try putting in a working sim card from another company and seeing if it works in your phone. If its not unlocked there are several sources out there to get an unlock code but if you need someone else to do it just do a quick google for phone unlocking in your area and im sure many options will show up. Cost can run anywhere between $20-100 based on what kind of phone it is atleast from what I've seen. Hope this helps!

They used to had " free unlocking your device" if you activate a new account. I think the easiest way is to go to Koodo store and use one of tester SIM. If it's locked phone, ask them if they unlock your phone free. If not you can ask your current service provider or use 3rd pattern service as Kakarot mentioned.
Awesome! Thanks a lot everyone. That clears all my questions.
