Switching carriers to koodo. Getting a new phone for a tech stupid person and what's the difference between tab plans

I'm with virgin mobile right now and I want to switch carriers. I just got a Samsung s4 phone but I want a different one instead. I'm not that tech smart but am willing to learn if it's not too difficult I'm not always the most patient person with myself. What would you recommend and what's the difference between getting a tab a tab plus or not a tab at all

tab plus means you'll pay typically about $15/month more for your plan
regular tab means Koodo lends you the money for free but might mark-up the phone
No tab - the best way to go.  buy your own phone and just get the service from the phone company.

Hey Danny! Not exactly. On the regular Tab you can put up to $360 on the tab, which will be paid off by $15 tab contributions on your bill within 24 months. On the Tab Plus, it is the same principle but there will be $21 Tab contributions. Added to the Tab charge will be your rate plan charge. Refer yourself to Mayumi's comment for an in-depth explanation 🙂

we're not allowed to to tell other users how it all adds up over a year?

Oh no, you absolutely can! But the point of the Tab Plus is to help those who are unable to put a large amount down for the device at the moment of upgrade. You can do a breakdown of the prices and how much they will end up paying for their  Tab + rate plan depending on what they choose as it's no secret and is available on our website. However, calling people names depending on their choice of Tab is not something that we will allow.

well, I don't think I "called anyone names", rather posited that people who chose tab + have likely not done well in their mathematics studies. I note that this isn't allowed.

So, anyway.  I'll point out again, that you're paying, on average, $15/month more for the same plan on top of paying off your plan.

So, you're paying $360/year as "interest" for, what, a $500 loan?  less?

Tab is like interest free loan from Koodo to purchase your phone. And you will pay it back to them monthly (Tab charge) for 24 month.

No Tab: You pay whole amount of your phone upfront. So no Tab charge. You can pick any plan                 from Canada-wide or Canada-wide Talk & Text

Tab : You can put up to $360 on a Tab. Tab charge will be $15/mo for 24 month.

Tab plus : You can put up to $500 on the Tab. Tab charge will be $21/mo for 24 month.
You have to pick a plan from Canada-wide Tab Plus

I wouldn't take a Tab plus because it's not worth for me.
Example) With a Canada Wide plan - $55 for unlimited minutes +1GB
With a Tab plus plan    -  $64 for unlimited minutes +1GB

You need to know how much minutes/data you need when you pick your plan.
And using a Tab is better value in the end even if you need to pay more upfront IMO.
