Son burned through his data on pokemon go. HELP!

we have two phones on our plan, the one in question was a special $30.00 for 150 minutes, 200 mb data.   Son was going by his phone usage but dates weren't adjusted to match Koodo billing period, and he has received his 90% warning.   I want to help him by adding some data for to cover the rest of the billing period.  How do I do that?

Hi Glynn, The only way to get more data with Koodo is to completely change your plan to one with more data, or pay the overage rate.

It might be best to pay overage rates, rather than end up with unexpected costs due to pro-rating of the data allotment through the month. Take a few minutes to run the numbers to see before you change plans..

Because of pro-ration, if you have burned thru 90% in a short period of time at the beginning of the billing cycle, there will probably be no way to avoid paying overage, unless you just stop using data for the rest of the billing cycle.

If you used 90% of 200 mb in the first 15 days and then switch to a 1 gig plan for the rest of the month, you will be paying 50% of the 200 mb plan + 50% of the 1 gig plan on your bill, and be entitled to 50% of 200 mb (=100 mb) during the first 15 days after which you will pay overage, and then 50% of 1 gig (=500 mb) during the last 15 days.

So the data portion of the bill will look like 100 mb (included) + 100 mb @ overage + whatever is used during the last 15 days.

Sorry for the math lecture, but check your overage rate now, because the cheaper the plan, the more the overage rate tends to be.

I agree with Mathieu on this one. You can just pay the overage rate or go with another plan suited for his data usage. If he's playing Pokemon Go only, it shouldn't really leech that much data. I've used maybe 60mb after playing it for about 4-5 days straight. You could also disable background data in his phone settings too as that might help the data usage issue with some apps. Good luck! Hi Glynn! You could change your current plan to a newer Shock Free Data plan (http://koo.do/1nOoM5Y) of $40 that gives you 500 minutes and 500 MB a month. If you do the change now the 500 MB will take precedence over the 200 MB this month. For $10 more, it might be worth it to be less worried about going over.

Maybe something to think about :)

Agreed the new shock free plans are better and more user friendly, but are you now saying that the 500 MB will absorb any previous overage on the 200 MB?

No, Bob. There is no prorata with data but if you already went over your previous data amount, that usage charge will remain.
thanks guys. I appreciate the advice.  Am i correct that the overage rate is just $10.00 for 100 mb?

It depends of your plan. If that's what's written, then that's the overage that's applied to your case.

Yes, for a plan that low the overage is 10$/100mb.
