SII x Case

What's the best case for a Samsung Galaxy S2 x? One that protects it when being dropped, and is not too large. Also, can you purchase them at Koodo or is there a cheaper product somewhere else?

I'd recommend an Otterbox case, but they're not available from Koodo. It does add some bulk, but definitely among the strongest.

If your looking for cases online the Hercules is the same as the S2x, it's just the US version. I would say the most protective case is the Otterbox Defender which you could pretty much throw the thing against the wall and it would be fine (Don't try it though lol) Otterbox also has a commuter series that is a little less protective so make sure it's the Defender series if you want the ultimate protection.
Personally, I would get a simple TPU case. On my S2X I have an S-line TPU case which I got for 5 bucks. It adds no bulk, and the lip over the screen protects the screen from shattering if dropped
This is what I have http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-2-II-T-Mobile-T989-New-Black-TPU-Rubber-Cover-Skin-Case-/150741593913?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2318e62f39 It doesn't add too much bulk and if you drop it the lip of tpu over the edge protects it from damaging the screen.
On my S2 X I'm using the Ballistic SG. It has a few different layers of protection, the screen is recessed so you can avoid damage from falls and the corners have a ton of padding as you can see from this picture. It does add a little bit of bulk but it's worth the investment. Ran for about $35 at Bestbuy if that gives you an idea on price.

Are hard covers or gel covers better?

Most of the times Hardcovers add more bulk but are generally better protected, and gel covers are slimmer, but not as much protection as a hard cover, but in my opinion, enough.

A hard Cover with a rubber outside layer like the one above or the Otterbox ones. The one pictured above is about the same protection as the Otterbox commuter and is about the same price. The Otterbox Defender is $50 or so & is a little thicker than the one above it has a hard she'll that covers the entire phone then a soft rubber covers over that which protects it against shocks/drops and is also extremely comfortable to hold. It also has a built in screen protector that is sealed to the inside of the case and won't allow water or dirt through. all the ports are covered with rubber with little doors that you can open to charge or insert the head set and when they are closed the entire device is incased and won't get wet in the rain or if it's dropped in the snow. It also won't get dirt between the case and phone as easy which is great because sand can get behind the phone in cases and scuff the phone slightly. I suggest taking off whatever case you get every week once and giving the device a good wipe down with a microfiber cloth and blow any dirt/dust that has gotten behind the phone.

As far as I am aware Otterbox does not make a case for that phone or it's called something silly like the 4G Epic Touch or something along those lines.
I believe Jonathan is correct, the Epic Touch 4g is Sprint's version of the phone down in the States. I know from experience that the Skyrocket (Rogers variant) Otterbox cases will fit but the speaker is on the opposite side so if you do go that route just make sure it does fit before you purchase one you are unable to use.

I can confirm that Otter box does not make a case for the S II X, as the US variant that matches ours is the Hercules for t-mobile. The ballistic one above is the closest thing I've seen to an Otter box for this device.
Where are you purchasing these cases? And approximately what are their costs? I guess my ideal would be slim, protective, inexpensive and easy to get.

Chances are you'll have to get on online from an online retailer, that's why I mentioned that you'll be looking at the Hercules probably which is the US version of the Galaxy S2x.just Google around until you find one that you like. Thy Expansys or Newegg they might have something and they are good places to deal with Don't get anything from Blueshop because a couple if us here have had our credit cards #s stolen and that was the site we had all used making it obvious who stole are CC#'s. Use Paypal for sure or a prepaid visa.

For a slim case I bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-2-II-T-Mobile-T989-New-Black-TPU-Rubber-Cover-Skin-Case-/150741593913?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2318e62f39 its a good deal and free shipping
i got this really good case for $10 bucks from a kiosk in the mall, its not cheaply made and it fits perfectly. Droped my S2x millions of times and it still looks brand new.

I had seen it on here, but I found a case on eBay called the Fish Bone (I think I paid around $10 plus shipping and such). There was quite a few colours available. It's similar to a commuter otterbox in the sense that the black is rubber, and the red (in my case) is plastic. Here's a couple pics.
