You need to create a Gmail account. Then (or if you already have a Gmail account) you can goto settings...accounts and add the account to your phone. that will allow you to use the play store and if you already use Gmail, it will sync it to your phone.

Is your mobile data on? You can just use the Koodo network data to accomplish this.

If you're not sure look for the letters 3G/4G or H/H+ next to your signal bars on the notification bar. If you see them then you're connected to Koodo's network.

mobile data is on but I don't see the 3g/4g or h/h+ you mention. I live a little ways out of the city if that makes a difference. I did not pay for a data plan, could this be why it won't let me add an account?

Are you on prepaid?

No! $150tab...free phone. Maybe I'm too far out of town or just not very tech savy...this is my first smart phone...it's too smart for me! My last phone only had talk and text.

Don't worry, I'll try to help you. Even if you didn't pay for data it's part of your service unless you asked Koodo to block it. Let's make sure it's working Goto Settings Wireless and networks Mobile networks Make sure data is switched on.

With the wifi off try going through adding an account via settings..account... add.. Google If you're still having issues connecting to the network, login to self-serve using your computer and check your account for the data block add on.

Data block is on. How do I turn it of. I don't have a data plan, just the $29 200min talk & text plan. I don't want huge extra costs on my bill.

Okay that's what I thought. You'll need to find a wifi connection in order to complete the setup. If you want to do it tonight hop in the car and head to a shopping area. Chances are you'll find some open wifi networks to get onto.

And if you're not going to put data on then you should invest in a wifi router for the house so you can use your own Internet at home. Check with your Internet service provider as there may already be one built into your modem.

What is the risk in turning off the data block add on? how would that work?

If you turn off the data block you'll be using pay per use data which can add up quickly and get expensive. Also since you have a smart phone, apps which work in the background will use the data to update themselves( unless you configure the phone otherwise) The usb part of your modem will not allow you access to data via your phone.
