Send a text to an email address


When ever I try to send a text to an email address it just says sending for hours. It converts to a (multi meida message) MMS and even with my wireless turned on and connected it does not work. Any ideas?

MMS even when sending to an email requires cellular data... It wont work on wifi. Make sure your data is on

Based on that, it is very possible you would need to have the mobile data turned on as well since all MMS would need to have the mobile data on in the first place. Try that and post the results 🙂
Thanks for the answer ,but I don't want to waiste my data on that. I only get so much. I didn't need data to use it when I was with Bell 😞

Keep your wifi on. Turn mobile data on. Wifi will use data. Mobile data being on only opens the door for MMS to work when you have the Wifi on.

The data used to send the MMS will not come out of your bucket of data. However the data channel must be turned on. If you do this, becafeful with background apps using data. Try to be connected to a strong wifi signal when you turn data on. This can help prevent any unexpected data leakage when trying to send a MMS. Or you could always just email the person via email app and use wifi

I'm having the same problem as original poster. If I use my (native) texting app and start typing in an email address in the 'to' field, it get a little popup saying 'converting to MMS' and then after I tap send it just hangs forever saying 'sending.' And, if I open up Gmail on my computer and send a message to ##########@msg.koodomobile.com it never arrives on my phone. My phone is a Nexus 4, I'm not on prepaid, I have lots of data on my plan, data and wifi are always turned on. Any ideas why this won't work?

Also, I've tried to send myself a message with gmail and I'm having the same problem... The site works though

The person there had problem with SMS, are you having problem with SMS or with MMS?
I'm having trouble with MMS. When I send an email to ##########@msg.koodomobile.com it doesn't arrive on my phone. When I try to text to an email, it automatically converts to an MMS but it wouldn't send. I looked around and found some ideas about turning off wifi. I tried that and *once* a message arrived at my email but with a weird phone number. I tried it a few more times and it wouldn't work again. But even with wifi off and data only, I still can't receive an email to my text. I have a Nexus 4.

Well, the thread you are talking about is about SMS, which is not the same problem as yours. Therefore, I don't think the thread brings anything forward. Plus, the other thread is 4 months old "I cannot send any SMS text messages to people, unless I have received a text from them already" What I have said, is that there is a network problem with the network and MMSs right now. I know you said it's been a while you're having this problem, but maybe it'll get fixed after today? Have you been able to receive any MMS (pictures)? Forget about the e-mails and tell a friend to send you a picture.
Ok, so weird... I was able to text a picture ('sent'), but then my friend got a message saying 'couldn't download' (she's on Koodo with Nexus 4 too). She couldn't get a picture in a text to get past 'sending' when she tried to text me a picture. She sent a text to my Gmail, and I received it, but it was from a strange number@msg.koodomobile.com. When I replied to that email, it didn't arrive on her phone.

I'm not having any issues with regular sms - sorry about the confusion there.

Your friend probably doesn't have a data plan included. People without data plan get this message. This is what explains the fact that she can't send a picture either. As for the e-mail problem, like I said, I wasn't able to send myself a message neither so except the fact there's the network problem, I don't know what the problem might be. She has a data plan and her data is on. That thread about Telus images doesn't seem to apply as the couple times a text to email came through, it displayed Koodo images (though the strange number might be a telus number).

It's somewhat working now. I can use my text app to send a message to an email address, and that message shows up with my phone number@msg.koodomobile.com (and not a strange number like before). However, when I reply to it, nothing shows up on my phone. I'm able to text a picture to a friend, which she received no problem. However, I don't get the message/picture when she texts me a picture. So with both these tests, it's a problem with me receiving the message on my phone. However, Koodo's 'sendamessage' page works to send a text to my phone. I've looked through my phone and text app settings for anything that might relate but I can't find anything. Any ideas? Thanks!

I've got this working now! I could send, but not receive MMS. I called Koodo support and we changed one thing. Go to Mobile Network Setttings > Access Point Names > Koodo. Towards the bottom, make sure Authentication Type is 'not set.' Mine was 'default,supl,mms.' I tapped this to alter it, deleted the text and hit OK and it now shows 'not set.' Be sure to save! Select the menu dots at the top right and choose save, then power off then power on the phone. Hope this helps others!
Just in case some of you aren't aware, I'm a Koodo customer, and using

<10-digit mobile number>@msg.telus.com

works for sending email as text to my phone. Koodo is owned by Telus, and uses their network.

I am, however, experiencing the hang on 'sending' trying to send text to email, even though I have my mobile data turned on.

I also have the same problem, tried with@msg.koodomobile.com and with@msg.telus.com and none work for me.
