Samsung Galaxy loses service each time the screen goes dark.

I use the SGH-I547C, a ruggedized Android Galaxy smartphone with OS 4.1.2 The screen goes dark every 10 sec or so when not active, so I can save on battery. (This phone seems to chug thru battery, needing to be charged every night.) What is annoying is that every time I wake it up from dark screen it has lost the service, and I can't call or text for sometimes even a whole minute, which is how long it takes to find the Koodoo service. Does anyone else have this problem? Trying to figure out if it's a faulty phone or a problem with Koodoo. I'm right in the city of Calgary, and never on the outskirts, so I should have service all the time. Any thoughts?

Hi Rosanna First off almost every smartphone needs to be charged every single night so that's not really an issue. Second, have you installed any battery saving apps? If so there is probably a setting within that app that disconnects the cell connection when the phone goes into sleep mode (screen dark) to save on battery as the cell connection does take a lot of battery to stay connected.

Paul, thanks for taking a moment to send this helpful answer. It's a used phone, and I'm not used to smartphones (blackberry user) so I'll check out the app and just suck it up about the charging; you can charge a blackberry just a coupla times a week!
Hi--I just got off a chat with Samsung. They advised me to restore to factory defaults & reboot this way, but I still have the problem with the service. BTW, I didn't have any battery-saving apps installed, but this was a great suggestion from Paul. Here's the instructions for the hard restore & reboot for what it's worth. Garner A: 1. Power the device off. Garner A: 2. Press and hold Volume up + home button + Power buttons at the same time for 5 seconds. Garner A: 3. The Android system recovery menu appears. Garner A: 4. Press the Volume Up or Down button to select "wipe data/factory reset", and then press the Power button to make your selection. Garner A: 5. Press the Volume Up or Down button to select "Yes – delete all user data", and then press the Power button to make your selection. Garner A: 6. When the reset is complete, press the volume Up or Down button to select "reboot system now", and then press the Power button to make your selection.
