My husband and I are on the same plan I am travelling to the US for the weekend can we still talk and text without being charged

No You both need to grab a roaming add on otherwise you'll be charged for pay per use roaming. That being said If you just keep it to text and not talking, you can text each other for 5$ per 100 texts sent (incoming texts are free). Still it may be less expensive just to grab a couple roaming add ons. If you're on prepaid, none of this applies as prepaid doesn't work outside of Canada.

Hey Tracy! Just to add to Chad's comment, only you will be charged for roaming as you will be in the US. Since your husband is staying in Canada, he will still be able to call and text you without any additional fees.
