We’ve recently discovered a rare issue that could affect a small number of Android users when trying to dial 9-1-1. Don’t worry. You will only be unable to dial 9-1-1 if you have VoIP apps like Skype or Viber set as your default voice dialer. If that’s the case, there are a few easy steps you can take to fix the problem. When you dial 9-1-1 through a VoIP app, your phone will try to go back to regular dialing instead. If the VoIP is set as your default dialer, it will stop your phone from moving to regular dialing and the 9-1-1 call will fail. Please do not dial 9-1-1 to test whether or not you are able to make an emergency call. Simply follow these steps to correct the issue. 1. Select Settings (or System Settings) on your phone 2. Scroll down to Applications (may be listed as Apps or Application Manager) 3. Select the phone dialer application that was set as the default for dialing calls (e.g. Skype or Viber) 4. Scroll down to the “Launch by default” section and click on the “Clear defaults” button To make sure you don’t encounter this problem again, choose your native phone dialer to place calls until this issue is fixed. Thanks for your attention and stay safe!
