Pixel 3 poor signal


I have very poor signal with my pixel 3. Moto G plus works fine in same area and must contantly use it.

I think Koodo Central America had nothing to do with this.

I would suggest you contact Google directly and ask them about the signaling issue, and see if they can offer any diagnostic or replacement for you. It might be issues with Pixel hardware itself. https://support.google.com/pixelphone/?hl=en#topic=7078250

It seems you provided subjective assessment of the signal reception, do you have an app to measure the signal strength on both devices. It would be better to know the signal strength/bands and locations where you didn't have the signal.

Does your pixel3 always have poor signal or only in certain areas?
Compared to Moto G plus or my 4.5 year old Moto G I replaced with Pixel 3 I have poor service all areas I have been. Notice this most at home in Ganges Salt Spring Island where the pixel 3 tells me no network but Moto G has.

In your network settings, is it set to WCDMA/LTE Auto?
Pixel has was at lte. Koodo help in Central America just changed to 3G to see if signal would improve. The Moto g plus that I borrow is set at lte and has good signal.

Are you saying they changed it at the account level of they walked you through the settings on your phone?
I am told the first seconds of my call is garbled by those answering my call.

@moya sadly, despite being priced as a premium flagship, the Pixel 3/3XL seem to have known issues around call quality.

Are you saying they disabled VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) for you? This seems to work for some people, based on the links I posted above.

EDIT: how long have you had the phone? If you're within your return period, you may want to consider returning it and choosing something different. If you've had it too long to return, you may want to reach out to Google to see if they will replace it for you. For some people (according to the links above), this has resolved the issue (though not for everyone, sadly).

So far no improvement. Also have made calls and I am told that the first seconds of call garbled and during our conversation words are dropped.
I would have replied sooner srlawren but could not until I connected weboost signal booster. My phone tells me No service. I purchased the phone 29 November. On advice of Koodo help in Central America I returned the phone due to camera issues on 08 January. I was told the phone would be replaced if the issue was verified by Koodo representative. Takes a day with ferries to get to Koodo kiosk and return home. Yes the spots were on all pictures verified by agent at Koodo but instead of replacing phone it was sent for repair. Camera fine on return (another day spent to pick up phone) but signal issues and sound quality deteriorated.

You never read reviews about how well phones perform as phones... only as cameras or gaming machines. The Moto brand, along with long-departed Nokia, have always had excellent reputations for reception and performance in marginal areas. Does no good to have the latest greatest CPU if the basic radio can't hold onto a signal. Loading a signal strength app may only obfuscate things.

I used to have an LG G3 from T-Mobile which performed 10x better than my Koodo Samsung Note 2 in an admittedly marginal home location. Was very pleased, then "upgraded" to a refurb Bell LG V20.... then back to the crummy Note 2-style on-again-off-again type of reception. My local tower is Bell... 800 meters away with a few hills in between... it hasn't moved, nor have the signal stength numbers, so it's obviously a handset issue.

A number of years ago there was an "issue" with earlier iPhones' reception, and the common "cure" was to keep hands and fingers away from the internal antenna area, if I remember correctly.
Rick from Koodo called back to see if improvement. No, so I need to return the phone and have it sent for repair a second time. Warranty does not cover replacement. The first Koodo phone help said that once a Koodo representative at the kiosk verified the camera failure that they would replace the phone. That did not happen, it was sent for repair. But your advice of keeping hands off antenna area might work, I am so frustrated that I'll not touch this useless phone. Now if I weaken can you tell me where the internal antenna is in the Pixel 3? ....or maybe there is no antenna.

The admittedly flimsy antenna cable runs from the bottom to the top of the phone along the right side when it is face down. So if you normally hold the phone to your left ear, your thumb is probably covering it. You could try palming it in your right hand in front of your face and using the speaker to see if your reception improves.

Did you have the "VoLTE access" add-on in your account? If not, you need to contact Koodo and ask someone to add it for you (facebook messaging (https://www.facebook.com/Koodo) is better).

Thanks! I found that thread too, and sent a message on Facebook. Hopefully it helps with all these call quality issues!
Thanks again for the advice. I contacted Koodo on Facebook to get Voice over LTE enabled. But I told them what model of phone I have, and they said my model of phone isn't supported. So then I talked to them on the phone, didn't mention which model I have, and they successfully enabled VoLTE.

I'll have to report back in a week or so about whether this seems to fix the call quality issue.
