Phone unlocking

So I bought my new phone in full. Would I still have to get it unlocked or is the phone automatically unlocked when you pay it outright?

I dont think its unlocked, unless you chose to buy an unlock code at the time of the purchase of the phone. I think if it was factory unlocked, they wouldve told you its factory unlocked before you bought it.

You still have to get it unlocked. Since you have android in your list it would be much cheaper to go via a third party route for the unlock code. I personally go with th top feedback options on ebay. The instructions are given and very simple.

Since CRTC as ban cellphone unlocking fees as of December 1, why can't we just get our phones unlock now for free since it will have to be free then?

Because it isn't December and they are not required to unlock your phone for free. Marijuana is also set to become legal next July. Wanna guess what will happen if you light up in front of a cop before then?

Pretty sad when we have been a customer for so many years and this is how customers are treated?? Like all I want is to unlock my old phone to give to a friend who needs one.  I am still a Koodo customer and have been telling others how great Koodo is and already have people in my family that went with Koodo.  I guess maybe it's time to change carrier.

If that makes you happy. Be aware that no other provider is going to unlock phones for free before December either.
When phones are purchased at or on behalf of a carrier the manufacturer sets a set up programme which locks the device to the carrier that the sim card is first inserted with. Only devices specifically described as unlocked are so, until the unlock code is successfully loaded.

Pixel/Pixel XL (phone by Google) devices are the exception to the rule and are sold unlocked.
