phone not recognising sim card

I have an unlocked HTC Desire S phone (brought with me from the UK, just moved to Canada) but when I put a Canadian sim in it it doesn't work. I've tried having it unlocked and both my own efforts and the company to took it to couldn't unlock it - I was not prompted for an unlock code. I've tried sims from various networks and none work. I want to be able to use this phone with Koodo, and it should work, but nothing will make it accept the sim card! Any ideas?

So from what I'm seeing once you install a foreign sim card it will prompt you for the unlock code. If it is not asking for this number it is possible that: A. It is already unlocked B. Too many attempts to unlock it with an incorrect code has caused it to be permanently locked to the original carrier. Things to try: Reinsert an active koodo sim Goto settings / wireless and networks / mobile network Ensure "use 2g only" or "gsm only" are not enabled. Koodo doesn't support this mode. If you're not sure if the phone is actually unlocked you should contact the carrier the phone was originally locked too. Are you getting an error message from the phone when you insert a koodo sim?

Koodo uses HSPA+ 850/1900 LTE 1700/2100 From what I see here: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_s-3776.php It looks like the HTC Desire S uses 3G 900/2100. This could be why your phone is not working
I've done a bit more reading and it seems there are 2 versions of the desire S - S150e and S150b. e is the European model, and it looks like it doesn't work with North American networks. So I guess I'm stuck :o/ Shame, I really liked that phone!! (anyone know of the closest equivalent?)

I don't really blame them. The last one they decided to carry has been a fiasco.

The selection they have is not great though - can't afford an iphone and don't like Samsung... I'm a bit stuck!

There is a great option present in the lineup called the Nexus 4. If you're looking for android. And the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 are also great options.
