No voicemail notification on Samsung Galaxy S6 unlocked (Sprint)

I guess the Sprint phone comes with this voicemail app that I can't uninstall and that might be interfering with the voicemail function. I don't get any notifications and when I go to the Dialer's app settings, it does say "My carrier". If I press on the voicemail icon it does go to this App that shows "No message" and if I press on 1, it dials something but not the Voicemail and says the number can't be completed. I've looked everywhere in the settings but can't figure it out, any help or suggestions would be very appreciated! Thanks.

Usually different carrier phones have their own Voicemail number programmed into the phone. You'll need to find the voicemail telephone number for your carrier, and go into the Phone Settings and remove the old Sprint one and add the current one so that the #1 button will dial to the correct one.

Hi Xavier,
I don't think the Sprint app will work with Koodo voicemail given it was developed for different carrier and purposes.

I would try to use the normal voicemail in your phone app. Hit number 1 and hold to access your voicemail.

You can also check if your carrier voicemail number was set properly in your phone. Phone app --> More --> Settings --> Voicemail Settings. In BC the number is:1.778.580.4001

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I wish I could uninstall the Sprint phone app but doesn't look like I can. I can't use the #1 speed dial either as it must be set up for Sprint and I have nowhere to change it (probably linked to the Voicemail app.

If I go to Phone app --> More --> Settings --> Voicemail Settings, it also sends me to the Sprint app so I'm completely stuck... 😞

Wow, this is bad, I hate carrier app that rooted into Android system. You could look around and see if there was a solution somewhere. Sprint forum could be a good source for answer.

I think the temporary solution is to dial your own number from your handset, it will also get you to the voicemail.

If you go to settings - >apps and tap on the vm app do you have the option to disable it?

If your phone was already out of warranty, you could try to flash T-Mobile ROM onto your phone. It might help to clear out all Sprint apps.

In the long run, you may be better off changing your handset. Sprint and Verizon have a reputation for being not too other-carrier friendly with some features being really baked into the phone.

Sprint (s6 920P) natively uses only one frequency of the four that are common to most other US and Canadian suppliers, though the handsets may support the other 3.

If sourcing US unlocked phones, AT&T and T-Mobile are a better choice. I have a T-Mobile LG G3 on Koodo prepaid that functions fine, including roaming on AT&T in the US.
