Niagara Falls Canada Side

Everytime I visit Niagara Falls, I keep getting a Welcome to the U.S. SMS alert, stating that I am now in the U.S. and that roaming charges will be applied. However, I am never actually in the U.S. and am always on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. I am concerned that I am going to be getting roaming charges every time I'm in Niagara Falls.

Looks like the phone is picking up a US tower. Settings>Mobile Network Settings>Network Operators Now turn off automatic and manually search and select Koodo (this will take a few mins). Now your phone is set to only connect to koodo and will not accidentally roam on a US network

This is hard for border towns like Niagara Falls, Windsor, etc. U.S towers have their transmitters turned up higher. Most phones come with "automatic" network selection turned on by default, so it will connect to those sometimes. Depending on the Android model you have, you can set it to "manual" connection so you won't hit any U.S towers when you travel there. It'll be under mobile network settings.
This happened to me last week. They charged me $5 data for being in the US when I was in Niagara Falls Ontario. But if I call them it'll cost me $10 to talk to someone... What do I do?

They don't charge you for bill inquiry.
Also, if you were staying Canada side at that time and you got charged for roaming, just explain to them. They will help you.
*611 from your Koodo phone, option 5 > then keep pressing 0

They've always been understanding of this issue with those of us who live or work near the border. Following Jonathan's advice above will eliminate unnecessary calls to Koodo after the fact.
I always get slammed with roaming data, I live in niagara falls, Clifton Hill, along River Road, Niagara Parkway, are the worse areas. They will credit your account if you get the roaming charge on your bill.

You might consider switching you phone from automatically choosing the carrier it connects, to forcing it to connect to Koodo only, as Jonathan suggests above.

You can also disable roaming in your phone's network settings to prevent accidental roaming charges.
