Nexus 5 Replacement Options: Tab vs. Sim Only


Hey, so I'm about halfway through my tab with my Nexus 5 (maybe about 150$ or so left on it).
My phone recently just kicked the bucket, not even a year old, and I'm weighing my options of replacing it. Sending it to a shop right now, but if irreparrable, I'm looking to buy another Nexus 5 with Koodo, but this time Sim Only and 360$ upfront.

Do I still have to pay off my tab in order to do this? Or can I just get the new phone (with no tab) and continue paying off the remainder of my old tab as usual?

Hi there... First thing here, if your phone is still under the manufacturer's warranty and it has no physical or whater damage, you should send your phone to be serviced, definitely this will be the most affordable option for you... Then, if it is not covered by the warranty, it is up to you, do you prefer spending money out of your pocket now, or divide the price of your phone on the TAB to pay it on a monthly basis?

I had cracked the screen on my phone in early September, so the warranty is unfortunately not an option.

And I'm interested in paying up front for the phone Sim Only, I'm just wondering if I will be required to pay off this current phone's tab (of 150$) [b]before I purchase the new one. I would like to continue paying off my old tab with my monthly bill.

Were you planning on buying the new phone from Koodo, or from somewhere else? If you are getting it from somewhere else, just put your old sim card in the new phone and carry on with your old plan and tab 🙂

Since you are planning on paying for the phone out of pocket (without using a tab) you can buy a new phone and make sure that it registered on your account, and you will be able to continue paying your tab off the way you are now.
Basically to register the phone on the account all you have to do is take the SIM from your old phone, put it into your new phone, and turn the phone off and on.
If you were getting a phone with a different size SIM card, you would have to go into self serve, and register the new SIM card number on your account.

One important thing - since you are just moving the SIM from one phone to another....make sure that all of your contacts on your current phone, are saved to your SIM card, otherwise you will have to re-enter them into your new phone (I don't have that many and it still took me awhile to do)

Saved to yeour sim or backed up using a cloud service like your Google account. I switch phones constantly so it's a real time saver to have everything sacred to google.
