Nexus 5, marshmallow - wifi issue since last update - tried everything


My Nexus 5 ( 6.0.1, last patch installed dated March 1, 2016) doesn't recognize my home wifi anymore. It connects to my network, but says there is no internet (but there is). I tried everything (all the suggestions on Android sites, i.e. toggling plane/wifi/data on/off, shutting down/restarting the phone, deleting/re-entering the network, re-starting in safe mode, even reinitializing the network parameters... I went as far as resetting my router, changing the name and password of my network...) My phone connects to the wifi in cafés, and to my neighbour's wifi (open, no password). But with mine, all I get is "connected, no internet access" (while my computer is connected with access to the internet). What can I do now?

Try activating the 5ghz network in your router settings. 192.168.1.1 usually in ur browser on Pc. And try connecting to that.

Current home router is the cheap Dlink DIR-605L, no dual, only 2,4 ghz... Wish I hadn't bought the nearest one available in a hurry when my previous router died...

I have a cheap router that is amazing so you don't absolutely need a great router but it sure helps to have 2.4 and 5 mhz. I would contact Dlink eventually and see if they have any solutions if no one in here can eventually help you. . But don't pay if they ask u too as they don't like to help customers for free.

SPIT! isn't that soooo frustrating! I get that problem occasionally, I reset my router and Wi-Fi unit....usually I unplug them for 30 seconds.kinda a reboot...they get bunged up just like a computer does when its left on too long...solves my problem for a few months...note: digital cable guide and what not won't be displayed for up to 20 minutes( but tv will still work.) Next time, ima try Chadwicks idea...GL. NOTE: I run a kicka$$ Android S4 and an S6

Hey Mack, He stated that he already reset the router although that does work for connection issues to the router most times.

You stated that your computer is connected and has Internet, is it connected through a cable to your computer or through wifi? If it's through a wired connection then have you tried connecting another phone to your wifi or a laptop, tablet ect to see if the issue is with the router or indeed the phone? If other devices connect to your wifi then last thing to try sounds like maybe backing up your phone and performing a factory reset to see if something didn't get optimized properly during the update install.

Just brainstorming: Have you tried to remove the "protection" of your router, just for test purpose, and log onto network. Did you check the network name and password when connecting the phone. Does your network name show up in SETTINGS>WIFI?

Thank you. Just tried your suggestion, still no luck... Yes network shows up in Settings > wifi

Then definitely try performing a factory reset of the phone as it seems like your final option as you've seemed to have tried everything and it is indeed the phone not the router. (make sure to back up your photos, contacts, ect through the account settings in your settings menu prior to factory reset)

When network shows up and you tap it, does the phone ask for password? The level of protection is the same on both the router and the phone?

Password was correctly entered (each time I deleted/ re-entered the network) and accepted. Phone does connect to the network but "says" connected /no internet.

Not yet... I was dreading that it would come to this... Since my phone will connect to other networks/ routers and their wifi without issues, I am actually considering a change of router (at least to try /test with another model)... A tech I talked to in real life seems to think that there might be something with the router (I did experience some wifi interruptions on my laptop since having this router, which would not happen with my old one before it died...)

Trying a different router is definitely a good way to go. You mentioned "interruptions" and I had the same interruption problem with a Linksys that I ditched very soon. I needed to reboot that router at least twice a day. I am telling you these little stories because they might ring a bell.

It is NOT your router! It is that B.S. Marshmallow update. My Galaxy Note 5 is having the same issue, Been on the phone non-sop with Veizon Tech Support.  Tey have no answers.  According to Samsung,  factory reset will no work either.  SO pissed!

No. If all other items are connected fine. Its not her router that's at fault Tiz. It could need some settings changed. But definitely a different situation then you were in. Bob is right. Its probably the MM update needs a patch or something. Which if ppl are calling. U can bet they will fix it

It never hurts to reserve a spot on your router for your phone rather than rely on DHCP.

It's probably the software update causing the problem, but here are some generic solutions you can try:

The only thing I haven't tried in that list is contacting the manufacturer of the router... I must admit I have very little hope there, but I'll give it a shot

There's an update being pushed on April 6th to all Nexus devices and since it was supposed to be released already it could be held back to fix this issue possibly.
