My Daughter dropped her phone in the sink...

My daughter recently dropped her Nexus 5 in the sink. She has owned it about a year and its still on a tab.  We have had it in rice for a week, but apart from the battery buzzing and the alarm clock going off the screen is still dead.  I have to get her a new phone & realize I will need to pay off her current tab, but I wondered if there is any value in her old phone if we handed it in?  Just needing to keep expenses to a minimum.

Unless it's in working condition, it has no value as a trade in. You might be able to get a few bucks in a private ebay sale as long as you disclose the damage.
Okay thanks for the info.  This is the first time this has happened to me, my daughter has personal info on the phone so if I sold it on ebay do I just take the sim card out?  Just would not want anyone seeing her info.  Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Ask your daughter to consider what kind of information is on the phone you don't sell it with the SIM card or any SD card it might be installed but ask her what might be on the phone and it seriously consider if someone got that information would that hurt her. If the answer is no go ahead and sell it if she's not sure take a hammer to it

It happened to me before with an iPhone 3 GS. Make sure that there is no water in the SIM slot or SD card. Remove as much as possible from the phone, I mean back cover, battery (if possible), SIM and SD. Use a hairdryer with no heat to dry the phone. Leave it for a day and try again.

Thanks Chad, while there is nothing that would hurt her. I feel her contact info etc should not be out there, so I will do your second suggestion!

Thanks Tiz, It's already been over a week and the phone is not coming back to life,  we could not remove the battery so I think it is dead

@ Deb not sure if you have purchased a new phone yet, just thought I let you know that we do have a promo going on with Samsung at the moment exclusively at our Koodo shops. An additional $200 off with a trade in. Please take look to see if it's viable and affordable alternative option for your daughter.
