Hi Kolby,

not sure I can be of much help, but I am curious. I bought the Moto X-Play about a month ago. Mine goes to sleep after 1 minute. When I move it, it doesn't really switch on. the screen stays black, but I can see the time and any notifications (I haven't quite figured out how to manage those ... one way is to exclude certain apps in Moto). Anyways, to really wake the phone up, I'd have to unlock it (via slide movement). I can't imagine that this eats a lot of battery power. Could it be that the ambient setting is now standard (in Marshmellow) - I read that Nexus has copied the ambient mode from Motorola.

Cheers

Oh, just found a discussion on Reddit:  https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/3w8il3/ambient_display_2015_moto_x_marshmallow_60_gone/

I wonder if tasker could help ....

I have an LG41 that is ultra-sensitive. Every time it gets close to skin (hand or pocket) it wants to turn on.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=diewland.screen.off

gives you an on-screen button that will turn the screen off and lock it. Worth a try if you think that will solve your problem.

Hey, thank you both for your suggestion. I'm going to give them both a try. If that isn't draining my battery than there's a problem. I moderately use if it and it doesn't even last a full day.

Yes that's very odd to not last a full day for a Moto X Play. I'd definitely look into the battery drain figures in settings to see what's doing it in. I don't notice any drain issues from the feature you speak of with the screen personally. I assume that marshmallow got pushed to you by now?

I think the feature you're talking about is called daydream mode. You can turn it off under settings - > display - > daydream. I agree that it shouldn't have much effect on battery life at all though.

It won't be Daydream, as this feature only works when docked/charging, unless turned on manually each time.

This sounds more like Ambient Display, which should have a toggle in the display settings. There could also be a Proximity Wake setting causing all of this, which should be another toggle in that menu. It was a problem on my OnePlus X.

Go to your Moto features app which is a colourful circle icon that says Moto under it. Once in that tap the stars ✨ in the top right corner, then select display and there you can turn off or adjust when your display wakes with movement from the phone. Note : It use to be in the settings before Marshmallow under display settings

That seems to have worked out thanks! Why would they move it and make it so confusing?

Paul, I don't see that option on my Moto X-Play.  These are the options I see:

Display: on/off  set to 'on'  (not sure what that means)
Block apps
Select how much detail shows (show all notification content)
Keep screen dark (set to from 11:00 PM to 6:00 am)
Vibrate on touch (not selected).

How would I adjust the display waking up ?

It's in the moto APP. When in the app find the settings and it should be there

Thank you Kolby, but I am not getting it.

I found the settings in Moto app ...here I have:
Notivications (switched on)
Let Moto learn (just switched that on)
Privacy (yes, I've read and agree ...)

What am I missing and where?

Sang what do you want to do turn off your ambient display? If so just tap the on/off button at the top of the settings you described and it won't let the screen activate when moving the device.
About the battery life, I decided to see how long it lasts. It's been 4 1/2 hours since I unplugged it and its already at 60% total usage time is a little over an hour. That doesn't seem right to me. I had a oneplus one which was amazing. It had a smaller battery (3100) yet that thing lasted easily two days and that with high usage. Is it just me or do you think it's a mechanical issue?

I'd perform a factory reset and see if that helps as things may not have been optimized properly when updating from lollipop to Marshmallow and a fresh start can fix it. Charge the device to full and leave plugged in while doing the factory reset, do the same whenever you update a device in the future, perform the update with a full battery while plugged in.

You can also try to clear your system cache if that doesn't work, might he worth doing anyways as it seemed to speed up the phone a little more after I did it after the update to 6.0
