Moto G Call Volume Issue

Userlevel 3
I'm having issues on both my Moto G's. The "call volume" is inconsistent. When you make a call either with the speaker on or off, the first call will be full volume(which is correct), and the subsequent calls after are about half the volume or less, making it difficult to hear the other person while in public. I have turned off the phones and turned them back on, and the same thing happens. They work fine for 1-2-3 calls, and then back to half volume. Seems to be some type of software issue, as the speakers work fine on both phones. The 4.4 was updated, and since it was, this seems to be an issue. I know there's some 4.4 issues, but I haven't read about this? What would you guys suggest I do? Thanks, Just remembered..... When I make a call, and need to select 1/2/3 on an automated message system, I bring my keypad up, and when I go to select a number....I get within 1/2 inch of the screen, and it goes blank. This only happens when the call volume is on the phone is acting up. Strange stuff......

I've never had this issue. It seems to be a glitch in the call app. I can't really think of a solution for this. Does it happen with one person/specific people or is it any line you call?

Hi Jonathan, It happens with any number I call, on either mine or my wife's phone. When it happens, both the speaker volume and the ear volume are affected. I'm not too worried about the screen issue, but the call volume issue is something that needs correcting.

The screen thing is because of the proximity sensor. It turns the screen off when the phone is close to your face to prevent your face from touching a button or hanging up a call. To prevent this you can use speaker phone when you press buttons The proximity sensor itself is in the upper right hand corner of the phone just above the screen.

One thing I have noticed, is that when I hang up a call, it takes about 1-2 seconds for the screen to cancel. Once this happens, the volume becomes an issue. Perhaps it's similar to the hanging up a call issue??? (I haven't had any hang up issues, but my call volume #'s are not huge) It's like the phone needs to think about hanging up the call, and when it does....it changes the volume. The volume indicator is always showing 100%, so there's no increasing it, without shutting it off, and restarting it.

I think that would probably be a good starting point Chad...... Will I be charged for this?

Hi Chad, The issue of the screen thing happens when I have it on speaker also. As soon as my finger gets within 1/2 inch....the screen shuts off. As soon as I move my finger away, the screen lights up. I agree it's a proximity sensor causing this, but why is it doing it? That's my problem. I think that both issues are call related, and could be as Jonathan says, a call app issue. If it is this, what is the best approach to resolving it.
Hello, I purchased Moto G 2 weeks back and updated it to Kitkat a week later. When i was using Jelly bean initially I did not face any problem, but since i updated to kitkat I am having this problem where the incoming/outgoing calls get muted. Usually this happens when i listen to music with full volume and then make a call. As a solution I will restart the device which then resolves this issue but then I do not want to restart my phone too often. It is really annoying. I feel it is not a hardware issue as it works fine once restarted. Please suggest me what i could do to overcome this ? Thanks, Shaggy

This is a great conversation that's separate from the main topic, so I created a new topic to continue the discussion. Please reference the new topic here: I am having this problem where the incoming/outgoing calls get muted
