Losing BYOD discount

Userlevel 1
Today, I went to a Koodo store in hopes of picking up a Moto X Play. When speaking to the representative at the location, I was told that if I were to buy the phone I would lose my 10% BYOD even if I paid for the phone in full ($410). Frankly, this doesn't make sense because I'm not using the tab or any discounts. Is this true? If so, is there any way around it? Thank you.

Hmm that's pretty strange Haythem, never heard of this, as the BYOD discounts are already incorporated with the plan prices, as long as there is no negative tab. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

As long as you're not using your tab, your plan will not change just because you upgrade your device.

This is what I thought. It's also on Koodo's "Getting Started With Koodo" section http://help.koodomobile.com/getting-started-with-koodo/the-tab-what-it-is-and-how-it-works/Can-I-kee...

I'll try another location this time, if they say anything I'll show them the link.

You'd be surprised how uninformed some staff are. I had to correct a best buy rep that monthly sim cards can be reactivated within 90 days as he was adamant that once deactivated, they were garbage.

Hi Haythem, can you provide the location of this store? We want to have a look into this. Thank you!

It was the Koodo store (not kiosk) in Market Mall, Calgary.

Alright, so I went to another Koodo store and I spoke with the manager there asking him the same questions. He had told me that as long I pay the for the phone outright, I will not lose my BYOD discount. I also told him about what the other rep told me and he said he will speak with the manager at the other location and inform of what happened.

So that solves it. I have a new phone now 🙂

Especially at retail locations is this the case because not only are they no paid well or I should say underpaid of course, and require absolutely no previous tech trading or even any soft of certification to say they're sales associates and should always be at least on manager on duty as every little location has two managers being the general manager and "sales" manager or quite possibly sometimes it's only the two managers on duty in the store at the time but without knowing these facts no one can even tell because they have little difference in the uniforms to be able to tell; as well as their poor demeanor and work ethics do little to distinguish them as anybody who manages a store
But there's also very little to distinguish any difference ifor a manager in their pay rate, which makes sense that the same kind of. crap service is what's available
