Is the phone (Moto X Play) unlocked if I buy the "SIM Only" version?

Thank you Chad. I'm trying to figure out how to buy the Moto X Play unlocked in Canada, so I can take it to any service provider. I refuse to buy the phone outright, and then pay to have it unlocked 🙂

That's not going to happen. Unless you Buy it used and then pay a third party to unlock it. That device just isn't sold unlocked by carriers.

To add more to Chad,

Koodo actually has it cheaper, it typically costs $420 outright but with Koodo it is $410 and it is on promotion for $0 on Tab 360, which means it only costs $360 with Koodo on the Tab. If you choose to be Tab Free, you can pay out your remaining Tab balance with Koodo anytime, even on the next bill. Even better, if you are adding a new number with Koodo, you also get an additional $50 bonus.gift.

Thanks Erwin, that's a good idea. Then I could take the phone to Mobilicity (who apparently will be on the Rogers network effective October 14th) and get even better rates and plans.

You will still have to get it unlocked though

And if you take .gift cards and immediately cancel your service with koodo, you'll need to pay back the value of the.gift cards as well.
