I have to ask....

What exactly, is the tiny pin hole, next to the Headphone Jack? Is it the antenna?

This is probably the microphone for the camera or ambient noise

That would make sense. It's not shown/labeled in pamphlet. Yet important enough to have it's own hole, in the jelly case. Thanks!

There are three microphones on the Moto X for ambient noise reduction on calls and for ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition). One on the front at bottom just off-center, one on the back facing out, and one at top next to the headphone jack. Motorola was the first to put three microphones on its devices, and this continues with the Moto X, even if I suspect this is still a beamforming system that uses the microphones in pairs. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7235/moto-x-review I assume it's the same for the G

As the Moto G doesn't have always listening capabilities or the natural language processing feature like the Moto X I'm guessing one of the holes is just there but not functional & the other 2 are actually functional serving as the noise reduction Mic. They probably just used many of the pieces of the Moto X to create the Moto G to save money not having to make new molds to produce pieces. Molds can cost upwards of $100,000 to make so if you don't have to make one, two or even a few to produce the pieces of a new phone that's a huge savings.

I think I have the Motto G NSA Model Paul, with the specs described by Dennis and your "theory" I suggest, would not stand up in Senate Hearings. Both the screen protectors and cases of the Moto X are not compatible with the Moto G therefore, what would be the purpose, to place 2 pin holes in the Moto G outter jell case except to accommodate the NSA Model Moto G and save the $100,000 to accommodate Bill's 2 civilians models.

But the X and G are different sizes. Wouldnt they need to create a different mould anyways?

Your right. And fact that phone cases and outter jelly cases both contain the pin holes, may be an indication that future model(s) could be fitted with the 2 mics.

Your right Dennis, as the G also has pin hole on the bottom. The more I learn of this phone, the more impressed I am and the more I like it. Still can't believe that this phone was only $150.00. Thanks for for the web site also!

The Moto G and Lumia 520/525 are the base for which I will compare all entry level phones in their price range from now on. The G in particular has impressive value.

I read that Google offered up the Moto G being a Moto X with sacrifices, as a means to make their money from Apps/Services and that if this works for them, it will put pressures on the others to lower the high end phone prices accross the board.
