I don't want to leave Koodo, but its the partner that ignores my needs

I have been a long time customer, and I don't want to leave Koodo. However, I am very disappointed by the phones Koodo is offering. I have a choice between extremely expensive phones, or cheap phones that offer the same or barely anything more than my Moto G. As my Moto G has been rebooting itself a lot through out its life time, I want to step up my phone to a better phone. I like the Mate 2, but its only offered by a competitor, who also offers better plan pricing. If I didn't have the plan I have now, I'd run, but I want to give Koodo a chance. I will wait one month and if Koodo isn't giving me any promises of a better phone at a good price, I'm still not satisfied by the selection I'm bailing on Koodo. I refuse to upgrade to a Samsung due to its price bloated for what it offers, I don't pay for name brands. I also don't want the Idol X, as its barely anything more than I have now. The Mate 2 has an amazing battery and offers much for the price. I will accept a comparable phone, but as it stands right now, the clock is ticking for Koodo.

Since you really have very specific requirements for hardware in mind, find the phone you want independently of service provider. Then bring it to Koodo, maintain your number and plan and get 10% off to boot. Check out ebay, Amazon, Kijiji etc. Any AT&T-compatible phone will do just fine.
Thanks for your follow up. I do understand this is an option, however since I wouldn't plan on jumping from my carrier for a year, I'd rather go with a tab so I am not dropping $250-$300 on a new phone. A competitor will give me the phone for $0, and so I'd like to get the phone on a Koodo tab. So this is my issue with Koodo, they don't leave me many options considering their plan can't beat the competitor, but their network does. 10% off equals $54 savings a year, not worth the $300 drop I'd have to make. The point of my writing is to let Koodo know to step up to the plate. One of the lures of Koodo was a $0 phone that I pay off when I want a new one. Your suggestion only works for Koodo. Thank you.

Buy a comparable koodo phone (price wise) using your tab, pay for the unlocking, sell it on ebay or kijiji to offset the cost of the Mate 2 from the other carrier (which you may also find unlocked on Kijiji). Once you have the Mate, wipe the Moto G and sell that too

Hope the OP is happy once he's found his "Mate" after going through all those hoops...

Better yet, get the nexus 5 from Best Buy on renewal/upgrade. It's free on a Tab M (which means it's $50 off the Google Price) plus you get a $125.gift card. Nexus phones are the easiest to sell and require no unlocking. Then take your cash to buy what ever phone you want. The only reason I would leave is if someone else had a better plan than I have/could have.

If your Moto G is under a yr old then it's under warranty, factory reset it and see if it still has the reboot issue. If not, sell that as well.

My Moto G is just 2 or 3 weeks under a year old. I've tried factory resetting it twice but the reboots persisted. They got much better after 4.4 came out, but that introduced wifi issues. The reboots have only occurred 2 or 3 times in the past few months that I'm aware of, but I'm not looking to keep this phone any longer, I've decided to step up to a better phone. Thank you.

My last 29¢ worth.. the Mate 2 is hardly a world-beater phone, since it's featured by Net 10, a discount carrier in the US. Hope you get to see one in-the-flesh before committing to anything.

Huawei makes some good phones at the higher-end.
I am very grateful for the recommendations, and I appreciate the time Chad and Robert have put into this. I'm not set on the Mate 2, its just a great option with the Android 5 Lolipop upgrade coming out for it soon, at the price. I'm also interested in the Sony Xperia Z3, another great phone not available with Koodo. The only effort I'm willing to put into this is the same a competitor will give me, I hand them my Moto G to cut my phone cost down, and then put the rest of the phone's price on one of their tabs. Again, they even offer unlimited data, but I've brought several friends and family to Koodo, and so I'm not looking to jump, especially through the only hoop I'm facing here, which is Koodo. Koodo please consider my request, as I know I'm not the only one. Thank you.

Honestly, you're not going to get much of the value of the Moto G by trading it in. The Moto G is seriously great entry level quad core, I have one and wouldn't ever consider selling or trading it.

I'd be surprised if they give you even $40 for it. You're always much better off selling it.

Depending on where you are you will be disappointed in Wind's service. And the unlimited data you are being promised is full of conditions and snail like speed. In other posts Chad has spoken about his ordeal with Wind. He may share it with you again. Or just look up the CRTC's most recent report on complaints. Wind is the highest on a per user basis if I'm not mistaken.

Chad's experience was while roaming. Wind changed their roaming policy because a lot of US customers were signing up with Wind and using the service exclusively in the US. I can't believe that people are still complaining about Wind's 5 GB "cap" (or 10 GB "cap", if you pay more). I put cap in quotes because you simply get throttled afterward. So it is unlimited. Whether or not this works for you is up to each customer. When you price a plan with 5 GB of data from the competition, the semantics of Wind's "unlimited" become rather unimportant. Depending on where you are, you may be disappointed with anyone's service.

As far as Koodo launching the Mate 2 in your time frame, I fear you might as well start packing your bags. There hasn't been much demand on here for that phone, so I don't know if its something they have already been looking at or not. If phones get a lot of interest on here, then they will be considered, but I don't think ive seen anyone post it as an idea for Koodo to carry this phone. With that said, if you really want to see it, try posting it as an idea to see if more people want Koodo to carry it. Maybe your idea will get implemented and it will launch. I actually got to see one of these from the Huawei guys and its actually a pretty cool phone, and cool to see some of the things the company is doing.

I would suggest the Nexus 5, I just upgraded to it from the Samsung Galaxy S3 and i'm very happy with it. My wife has the Moto G, and for once I got the better phone Mate2 vs Nexus 5 http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5949&idPhone2=5705

The Nexus 5, while a better overall phone than the Moto G, has subpar battery life. The Moto G has excellent battery life, and so does the Mate 2. If this is of utmost importance to him, then the Nexus 5 may not be the phone for him.

Lots of viable suggestions here, but I think we should give Patrick a little rest and give him the opportunity to evaluate his alternatives. Otherwise, this thread will become several hundred pages long quickly with everyone listing their favourite phone. But I will still be interested to hear what Patrick decides eventually.

Bob, there's no need for you to try and moderate this community. There are people employed to do that.
