How to set a contact for a number in call log?

Hi! In my Google contacts, I've set up a contact for the phone number where I work to find it quickly. Also, in some other contacts, I've added the pro phone number that starts by the phone number of the company followed by the extension. If someone calls me with the company's phone, the extension is not showed (of course), but it's not the contact of the company that shows, it's the contact of my co-worker... I would like to set my phone that if I have an entry in the call log from the company's phone number, it's the company contact that shows and not the contact of my co-worker. For now, the only way I succeed to show it is to delete the pro phone number of my co-workers... Let's note that the name of the company contact starts with the letter B, and none of my co-workers have a B or A as first letter of either the first or last name. Is someone have a solution?

Best way to set your contacts is to follow same procedure to create regular contacts or have them snyced with your gmail account

It's already synced with Gmail. All my contacts are in my Google account. I don't have any contacts in the phone contacts.

Hey Pierre, the solution you have is the appropriate one. What happens when you have multiple contacts with the same number is that your phone will not know which one to use. I'm not sure how it picks the name to display. It might display the info based on alphabetical order or which contact was added in first, etc. A work around (not a solution) is to add a 0 to the number for your coworkers so that the Company Caller ID shows instead. When you call your coworker with this number the 0 will not have any effect in Canada

I tried with the 0 and it showed only the company contact. But now the problem is that I have to remember to modify the number before calling. If the number stored is 01-555-555-5555, it will call the operator first...

Oops. Sorry I meant add the 0 to the end of the number. I got a little ahead of myself. When added to the end of the number it should not have any affect on the call

I think I am learning something new here. So when you enter the phone number as a google contact you enter it as "1-555-123-4567, 9999" with 9999 as the extension number? And when you dial this directly the "," pauses as it connects, and the extension dials when connected? If so then this is a great Android feature. Now back to your issue, there is a app that sets default contact when receiving incoming call https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.modulo.defaultcontactfree&feature=search_result&hl=en Or this person has created a work around in this link http://www.souvey.com/2009/03/android-advice-shared-home-phone-numbers/ Give it a try and see if any of these solutions work

You explained it exactly as it works! And feel free to add more "," if you need more pauses. For example, if a company wants you to hear all the message before dialing anything, you can set the contact as 1-555-123-4567,,,9999. You can also set the contact to 1-888-888-8888,7,6,5,4 if you have to navigate through a menu. For my issue, i'll have to post back in a few days with the result because i'm from Québec and French is my first language, so it's a little bit harder to me to understand correctly all the instructions. Also, my evenings for the rest of the week are quite busy. I'll try first the Souvey's solution because the user reviews are not so good for the app and I rather not install an app to manage that...
