You can use google to back up everything to the cloud through wifi. Go to your settings and under accounts you'll see Google with the Gmail address you logged your phone in with when you first set it up, click on it. You'll see a list of everything you can back up, just check off everything and tap sync through the menu in the top right corner. After its done syncing your good to go everything is backed up to the cloud with Google so when you sign into a new phone or yours after a factory reset you log in with that address and choose to sync everything back to the phone or new phone. Photos will be backed up to google photos so download the app and you can set it to automatically back up your photos as soon as your phone connects to wifi such as every time you come home so you don't even have to think about it and if something happens to your phone everything will be there from the last time you connected to a wifi signal, it's pretty great not to mention how awesome Google Photos is for so many other reasons. It's also FREE with unlimited storage

Backing up from an android device to Google goes relatively fast since your actual apps are not uploaded, mainly a list of pointers for stuff on the play store that has to be re-installed on the new gear.

When you restore, the apps will have to be physically downloaded. I backed up an older tablet a few weeks ago and it took just a few minutes. Restoring it to a new (faster device) took several hours, so don't be alarmed if it seems to take some time.

Cabled solutions may seem to be faster, but are maybe a little less bulletproof and are certainly brand-dependent.
