How much would I have to pay upfront to bring a tab fee of $21 down to $10?

I'm thinking of getting the iPhone 5s with Koodo (with Tab Plus). My question is, how much would I have to pay upfront so that my tab will go from $21/month to around $10/month. Also would there be any way of me keeping the same number? Currently I have an Android and I know the iPhone uses a Nano Sim. Thanks

$394

Retail = $634
$10/month Tab = 24 months x $10 = $240

Upfront pricing is $634 - $240 = $394 + taxes

So would I still be able to have the same plan I have now on my Android device? Just the tab would change (once I pay off the Android one)

Yes since you would not be on the tab plus, you can keep your current plan
Just an update on the "situation". I went to Koodo today and they were asking for $450 + tax.

Did they show you the math? Did you show them my math? Retail price to buy the phone outright is $634 right?

Yes, we even had to call Koodo's customer service and they said I would have to pay the $450 + tax. What I was thinking was I would pay what I had (at that moment) towards the phone and tab and whatever was remaining would be charged onto my monthly bill but they weren't allowing that.

Wait does the $450 include paying your tab off too? If so this number could be right. If you want to pay off your tab on your monthly bill you can do that on self serve. Then it won't even be part of the convo at the kiosk. In that case my math above would work.

Not including the tab. I told them I would like to pay off my current tab but they were quite hesitant and told me just to wait until my next bill.

Just pay off your tab to your bill. You can do this on self serve and it will zero your tab right away and they won't be able to say anything about it. Next, ask them to show the math about the tab based on a $10 tab charge. Do you understand my math that I typed above? If so you can determine the discrepancy

I don't think you understand, they [b]will not allow me to do that. The only way (and I'm saying this because that is what the customer service rep from Koodo said) for me to get the iPhone would be if I paid the $450 +tax. I'm unsure if this is the case now because I just checked the phone again and it went up from $0 to $130.

How much would your tab be? I just checked the retail price of the iPhone 5s. I stand by my math

Okay, so my current tab with my android is $68 which is what I wanted to pay off before getting an iPhone. When I went to the kiosk, they were hesitant for me to pay it off and told me to just wait until my next bill came.

After that, the representative showed me that the phone would be $634 - a $175 "discount" which would be my new tab balance. I asked if I could pay what I had at the moment and then whatever was left would be charged onto my bill.

I'm not saying your math is wrong at all, what I'm saying is they will not allow me to get the new phone without paying the $450 upfront which is not what the website said (at the time, the price has since gone up from $0 to $130)

Ignore the $130 price.  The retail price is the important number.

Which Koodo kiosk location is this?

If they only put $175 on tab, what are they saying is your monthly Tab payment?
By chance, are you on the Spending Limit program?

In YorkGate Mall. My monthly tab charge would've been $8 and I have no clue what the Spending Limit program is.

If they said you are allowed to have $175 tab limit, you might be on the spending limit program as Dennis mentioned.

If this is a Koodo corporate store, they might have some type of internal policy regarding customers upgrading that require them to pay off the Tab at point of sale or they're worried about fraud since it's a fairly high amount. I recommend you use a retailer like Mobile Shop, Wow, Walmart, etc. When the CRTC rules came into effect regarding paying off subsidies before getting a new device, I was still working at Mobile Shop, and we never once, in my 2 years there, required the customer to pay off the Tab immediately at our point of sale. If the customer had a past due balance that required a call to do a credit card payment, sure, but that isn't the case. Also besides all that, I still don't see why the store is asking $450. Try going to another location or retailer.

I went to a Mobile Shop first, I'm going to go to a Koodo kiosk or Wow Mobile one sometime soon. Thanks!

Oh really? Interesting. I don't know what happened there. Could have been bad training, or their way of adding some type of accessory bundle or something. I haven't worked with cell phones since the summer so I'm not as keen on the procedures in store.
