Data put temporarily on hold. ..?

I have a data flex plan of $5/50MB since I rarely use data: the only things I use it for is navigation and if I need to search something up really quick that can't wait until I'm home. On Monday I was in a new city I had never been in before so I attempted to turn on navigation but it wouldn't work. So I went on my browser to search up troubleshooting for it and instead I got a message saying that my data was put on hold because I used 100% of my 0MB of data. I've added screen shots of the message I received. Has anyone ever had this issue? I've been with koodo since they started and never had an issue with them, I'm very concerned as to why they would leave me stranded without data all of a sudden. I've emailed them directly and will call them if I don't get a reply soon, I was just wondering if this is a common issue or if they're just picking on me

While this is new, you're certainly not stranded, the so is even showing you how to continue using data.

There should have a text message sent to you s well Oh and koodo, data sound continue at the overage rates for the plan. 5$ per MB is a bit extreme
My plan specifically says $5/50MB and I don't have any charges yet for data this month so it should have just charged me $5 automatically like it's done every month in the past instead of claiming that I don't have a data plan at all. I'm not going to spend $5 on 1MB when I'm supposed to get 50MB for the same price, that's insane

Hi Stephanie, there is definitely something wrong with this notification. $5 per MB is "slightly" too much 😉 The proper rate is indeed most probably $5/50MB. Can you contact us by email so we can check what happened? You can use this link: http://koo.do/11eMLdy. Please select "Social Media" as a category so we can find your email faster. Thank you very much!

And yes it started when I used my google maps this weekend. I have the same plan and have only used.25 Data  I also updated my android services recently. Just give me a phone # and charge me the 2 bucks.

You wont be charged the $5 or $10 for something that is beyond your control Laura. You can call Koodo direct by dialing *611 from your cell phone or from a landline 1-866-995-6636. The point system is a way to gauge a persons activity here in the community. People who regularly provide information or answers to questions will typically have a higher point count and corresponding badge.

$5 / Mb is alot more than slightly too much it's asinine, heck the $5 /50mb is ridiculous IMO and many MANY others.

If you want a good data plan you should probably switch to WIND. I don't use much data myself so it's cheaper for me to stay with Koodo

Only thing is wind is very limited in where you can use your unlimited data and when you leave that area your on a pay per use rate which can be costly. If you don't leave that wind zone though you can indeed save huge with wind.

It was a joke, Paul, that's why I wrote "slightly" with brackets :) Thank you!

You might want to consider prepaid if your usage is only sporadic. I find it tends to make me more disciplined in that I know I pay for everything I use,  but not for anything that evaporates at the end of the month.

If your phone has a little oomph, consider using Navigator or HERE for navigation: you will end up storing the maps on your phone once (via wifi) ahead of time and only use data briefly when you are searching for a destination, rather than downloading the next big map chunk on mobile. Al of North America fits on a 4 gig SD card easily.
Is there a way to get prepaid data without getting one of the pre-paid base plans?

Prepaid boosters are not available on postpaid accounts, Stephanie. Were you able to send us an email using the link provided before? If you did, we'll get back to you soon 🙂 Thank you!

Yes, I got a reply with them stating that my plan automatically includes .24mb of data and once I go over that I will be charged $5/50MB. It seems that they didn't read the full email where I said the notification wanted me to pay $5/1MB. Does this just mean the message had a typo? If I had selected the $5/1MB would it have added 50MB Instead?

I would also like to say that I got the notification more then once and each time it said $5/1MB since I thought maybe it was a glitch that would change if I kept trying it later on

Hi Stephanie, that was definitely a typo 🙂 The applicable rate is indeed $5/50MB and that's the rate that you would have been charged if you had unblocked data. We are currently looking into this notification issue. Thank you for flagging it, it's much appreciated! Have a great day!
