Could I Buy a Galaxy A5 from Fido and Use It With My Koodo Prepaid Account?

I want to buy the Galaxy A5 but I guess Koodo doesn't carry this phone since its not listed on the site. If I were to buy a Galaxy a5 at full price with another company like Fido, would I be able to have it hooked up to my current Koodo prepaid account? If not, should I purchase one from Amazon.ca and then have it hooked up ? I would much rather buy the phone in person than online but it may be my only option. I currently have a Galaxy Core LTE that uses a microSim and I'm almost certain that the Galaxy a5 uses a microSim aswell.

As long as you get the A5 unlocked then you should be able to use it with Koodo.

As long as you get it unlocked first. Check out www.willmyphonework.net to make sure it's compatible (though I believe it is)

If LTE is something you want to use make sure that fido is selling the A500M as it's the know one that uses Koodos LTE bands (which may or may not be important to you).

If it isnt that model and it doesn't use Koodo LTE Does that mean I won't be able to use my data from this carrier?

You will still be able to use t 3G/HSPA+ network. It's "slower" but still plenty quick, expecially in urban areas.

Also it doesn't matter what SIM Card you have as you can easily buy a new SIM Card from your local Koodo for $20 prepaid or $10 if you were on postpaid and just transfer your account to the new SIM Card, it's very easy to do through self serve. Then if you do that your not locked down to what phone you can get at all, just follow what the other guys said above about unlocked and compatible.

In order to unlock your phone search some seller Om eBay. It's going to be the cheapest option

Amazon or eBay are the best options, make sure the frequencies match Koodo frequencies. If you buy from Fido pay attention to the terms and conditions. Some provider do not allow you to unlock your device right away but after a certain time. For instance I think the magic number for Koodo is 3 months.

That's right and for all carriers that is the general rule.

Okay, so If I buy it unkocked from Amazon, everything should be fine, right? The one that I have been thinking of buying is the a5 00f model.

As Chadwick said, use willmyphonework.net to see. According to it, the a500f will work on the 3G network.

If you are looking on-line at US suppliers, shop for unlocked AT&T compatible gear. Avoid Verizon & T-Mobile.

I actually advise against AT&T because OTA updates cannot be done without an active At&t SIM card. Granted you can update via computer but it's the principle of it that bothers me. What's the issue with T-Mobile phones? Especially newer models?

T-mobile coverage in the 850 band??? which you will need with Koodo, so why take a chance with their gear, though in most cases the mfgr would not arbitrarily delete the 850 coverage.

AT&T compatible applies to the bands & frequencies which match 100%. Always best to check exact model number. Check out all 12 results for the A5  on [b]willmyphonework.net

The Amazon [b]A500F is NOT 100% compatible. You have no guarantee where Amazon & eBay suppliers have sourced their products.

Easy Over-The-Air updates is a problem with many phones that have emigrated.
