I've been on the search for a new phone as my Galaxy Ace is trying my patience! I can't afford a $200-$300 phone as much as they make me drool with their better workability and such. So, I've been checking out phones that are more or less knock-off versions of the S3, S4, S5 and the available mini versions. ie everbuying, crov, etc. Would a SIM card work in any knock-off, including prepaid, or would the phone have to be sold in a Canadian store?
I don't recommend knock offs. A lot of them are horrible quality and usually don't even work. I've seen a fake iPhone5s which lagged horribly (and didn't even look like iOS) and a fake S4 which was honestly worse than your Ace. Neither of the phones worked with the people's SIMs. You can buy any phone from anywhere as long as it's unlocked (or already locked to Koodo) and supports HSPA bands 850/1900. LTE is optional, but if you want it, Koodo uses bands 900/1700, I believe. Try Kijiji or Ebay for cheap quality phones (usually secondhand). In particular, the Moto G would be right up your alley. Unfortunately it's only on postpaid. If you're looking at continuing prepaid, then you'll have to get it elsewhere.
