Calling Canada from Mexico

Last time we travelled to Mexico I purchase 50 long distance minutes for $10 as an add-on.  This does not seem to be available any longer.  If I add International Long Distance add-on for $3 per month it appears I will be charged long distance at $.05 per minute.  Is this correct? And if it is correct, does this draw down on my available minutes on my monthly plan (i.e. 500 minutes in Canada)?

International Long Distance saver add-on( $3 /mo)  works WHEN you make calls internationaly while you are in Canada.

If you travel, then you need to add "Easy Roam®️ International" or pay pay-per use rate.

That long distance add on is for when you are in Canada. Koodo introduced easyroam to replace the old roaming plans. You can check it out here: https://www.koodomobile.com/easyroam In Mexico it would be $10/day to use. Easyroam draws from your current plan. Otherwise you can use the pay per use rates of $1.50/min.
Just to clarify, I wish to only place phone calls on my Koodo cell from Mexico to Canada.  I do not plan to use roaming wifi so $10 a day for calls only seems very steep!!

The only other option from Koodo is the pay per use rate of $1.50/min. I'm not sure the prices of Mexican SIM cards but that is something to look into.

The $10 per 24 hours is only for when you use any data, send texts, or talk.  If most of the time you are not doing any of these, you will not be charged the $10

To clarify.........ie. It would be $10 if I did any of the data, testing or talking if I did it on Monday.  Didn't use it on Tuesday or Wednesday so no charges and then when I used it on Thursday for any of the uses, I would be charged $10. for that 24 hours no matter how much I used it in the 24 hours?

I'm also thinking you are speaking of monthly plan add ons and not prepaid add on.  Correct?

Thankin in advance for the clarification.

Yes , easy roam works only for monthly plans and you're only charged on days you actually use services. You won't be charged extra on the days you use your phone unless you exceed the limits of your plan. (Exceed your minutes or data bucket) Prepaid roaming in Mexico isn't currently possible.

Rip off. We just had to pay a bit for each phone 4 years ago to text or call back to Canada to Mexico. Now its 10.00 for each phone each day. Greediness! Best to buy an AT &T sim card when you get to Mexico. 1.2 gigs for 10.00 at any WalMart

The Easy Roam options were seemingly copied/cloned from Rogers and other major business providers and designed to serve commercial heavy users who can't be offline for any length of time. The value for them is that the minutes, data, messages, etc come out of their standard allotment with no special purchase or kludgy text activation necessary the day before leaving.

$7 or $10 a day is peanuts for heavy traffic, but a complete waste for just a few calls, texts and emails per day. For casual travel, best to use a local SIM now that unlocking is free. It pays to investigate which US or Mexican plans include long distance back to Canada so you don't get burned on that.

If you are often bouncing between Canada and the USA, and are not a heavy usr, Koodo prepaid is worth investigating. You only pay directly for the minutes, etc that you use... they never expire and can be topped up any time, with no daily surcharge.

For an extended stay, T-Mobile and AT&T offer monthly prepaid plans that can cover all the bases.

And if it's really extended, Mint Mobile offers 90 days at a time for a really good price.
