Billing cycle not right on Nexus 5; also notification of data limit reached before data used up

Hi! There are a few parts to this data-related question. Firstly, my Nexus 5 does not have my billing cycle correct so it is unable to give me an accurate assessment of my usage. I went to a Koodo store and they said that they thought this was a glitch that would be fixed in the next update...so far no progress there. ALSO, using my Koodo app it says my usage is 281/300 MB, and online it says 282/300 MB, and yet I got the notification that I have reached my limit. Of course, I do not want to go over, but should I not be able to go right to my maximum of 300? Thanks!!

Hi Alex, So the built in data counter? It's highly inaccurate and had been since Google added it to android. There's a great app on the market called 3G Watchdog. Get it and take the time to learn to configure it properly to your billing cycle. Make sure to also set it not to count data used for MMS (something the built in counter will count) You'll have to enter you usage so far for the month too and tell it when your bill resets. Once all that is done you can get a real time view of your use and it can even send you (or anyone) a text to let you know you're near your limit. It can also cut you off before you go over. I recommend you set the cutoff about 25mb before 300mb to allow for discrepancies. Hope that helps.
Thanks Chad! But I should also be able to trust the Koodo app, right? If that's the case then I can turn my data on and use up my last 18/19MBs and just monitor it closely from the app. Thanks again. Alex

Well yes and no, the Koodo app is delayed a bit (possibly two hours). Best way to start out with an accurate reading is turn your data off (or be on wifi for a bit and then check the app.

At 282 of 300 MB you are at 95% of your usage. If you try to use every last byte, you run a very real possibility of going over your allotment, and incur overage charges. Due to data leakage from various app updates, and unknowns such as the size of an email attachment, you could easily be over without realizing it.
